Sermon: DECISIONS OVER DESIRES
Scripture: Joshua 24:15
REVIEW:
This week, we focused on the call to follow Jesus and the decision to serve the Lord wholeheartedly, even when it takes us out of our comfort zones. So often, we live our lives based on DESIRES that are ever-changing and lead us astray. We looked at Joshua and saw while others allowed their desires to determine their decisions, he made decisions that determined his desires! We have that same power IF we choose to use it.
Desires: A strong feeling of wanting to have something or wishing for something to happen
Decisions: Conclusions drawn after careful consideration
Key Points:
1. Follow Jesus Unconditionally: Serving the Lord means stepping out of our comfort zones and making a firm decision to follow Jesus, just as Joshua declared (Joshua 24:15).
2. Be a Witness: Being a witness involves laying down our lives and following Jesus at any cost. It is a decision to prioritize God above all else.
3. Decisions Over Desires: Desires are based on emotion and will lead to a life that is unstable and ever-changing. Good decisions are made by carefully considering who God is and how He has called you to live.
APPLY:
1. Reflect on Your Commitment:
- What areas of your life are you hesitant to surrender to God? What steps can you take to fully commit to serving the Lord?
- How can you step out of your comfort zone to follow Jesus more closely in your daily life?
2. Consider the Cost of Being a Witness:
- Are there desires or distractions in your life that keep you from fully following Jesus? How can you lay them down to prioritize your faith?
3. Trust and Decision:
- Have you made a personal decision to trust in Jesus and accept Him as your Savior? If not, what is holding you back from making that decision today?
- How can you share the hope and love of Jesus with those around you who may feel hopeless or lost?
PRAY:
Ask God to help you fully commit to following Jesus, stepping out of your comfort zone, and being a witness for Him. Pray for the strength to lay down your desires and trust in His plan for your life.
