REVIEW
This week, we closed out Luke chapter 2 by looking at the only story we have of Jesus between His birth and the start of His ministry. Luke gives us this glimpse into Jesus’ childhood, reminding us that even the Son of God lived most of His life in the quiet, ordinary years of faithfulness.
Mary and Joseph obeyed God by faithfully making their yearly trip to Jerusalem for Passover. In the middle of their obedience, they lost track of Jesus and searched for Him for three days. When they finally found Him, He was in the temple, amazing the teachers with His wisdom and understanding.
This moment revealed both the humanity and divinity of Jesus. He knew He was God’s Son and about His Father’s business, yet He still chose obedience to His earthly parents. Luke shows us that it was years of hidden, ordinary faithfulness that prepared Jesus for His extraordinary calling.
We were reminded that:
Obedience in the ordinary makes way for experiencing the extraordinary.
Faithfulness in the unseen seasons builds the strength and wisdom needed for the future.
True obedience flows from a relationship with God, not an attempt to earn it.
APPLY
Where in your life do you find it hardest to be faithful when things feel ordinary or unseen?
How do you usually respond when your obedience feels unnoticed or unrewarded?
What is one area of your life this week where you will practice consistent, quiet obedience to God — even if no one else sees it?
PRAY
Thank God that Jesus modeled obedience for us — both in extraordinary moments and in the ordinary, everyday seasons.
Ask God to give you patience to wait on His timing and strength to keep obeying when life feels mundane.
Surrender one specific area of your life where you need to choose obedience this week, even if it feels small or unseen.
Pray for courage to trust that God is using your ordinary faithfulness to prepare you for His extraordinary plans.
