RAP SHEET 10/13/24

Series: What You Started

Sermon: Shoot Your Shot

Scripture: 2 Kings 13:14-19

REVIEW:

This week, we kicked off a new series, "What You Started," to help us move forward with boldness and purpose. We looked at a passage from 2 Kings where the evil king Jehoash runs to the famous prophet Elisha for help securing a military victory.

The narrative describes how King Jehoash, despite his lack of faith and disobedience, comes to Elisha for help against the Arameans. Elisha directs the king to shoot an arrow through a window as a symbol of God’s promise of victory in Aphek. This “shooting” represents our need to take bold action when God presents us with opportunities. If we are paying attention, God opens up windows of opportunities for us to live our purpose, and it is up to us to SHOOT OUR SHOT!

Elisha then instructs the king to strike the ground with arrows, representing the king's participation in God's plan. However, King Jehoash stops after only three strikes, reflecting his half-hearted effort and lack of faith, resulting in limited victory.

God often provides "windows of opportunity," but it's up to us to take action and follow through with obedience, even when the path seems unclear or challenging. We must "shoot our shot" and "strike the ground" persistently, trusting in His plan and power. Our participation in God's work is essential in fulfilling His purpose for our lives.

APPLY:

  1. What windows of opportunity has God opened for you recently that you may have hesitated to act on?

  2. Are there areas where you’ve started striking the ground but have grown weary or stopped? What can you do to keep pressing forward?

  3. This week, what is one way you can practice relying on God's power rather than your own?

PRAY:

Pray for God to reveal the opportunities He has placed before you. Ask for the courage to "shoot your shot" when these windows open and the strength to continue "striking the ground" until He brings about the victory. Thank Him for His power and guidance as you navigate the journey He has set before you.
