Series: INSECURITY
Sermon: Religion Brings Security?
Scripture: Colossians 2:6-7, Romans 8:38-39, John 10:28-29, Colossians 2:14
REVIEW:
This week, we confronted one of the lies people often believe—that religion brings security. We began by discussing how insecurity, stemming from early life experiences, has affected all of us. People try to find security through relationships, success, or even religion.
We explored two major religious worldviews—works-based and Karmic cycle religions—demonstrating that both fail to offer the security we seek. Works-based religions rely on our effort to earn favor, while Karmic cycles keep people trapped in an endless process of paying off past lives’ debts. Atheism was also shown to offer no true security, leading only to moral relativism.
But the good news is that Jesus offers the security we seek. Unlike religion, Jesus doesn’t require us to work our way to heaven; He came down to us, offering eternal security through His love and sacrifice. Jesus alone erases the debt of our sins, offering us a secure relationship with God through faith.
APPLY:
Reflect on Your Source of Security: Where are you currently finding your security? Is it in your achievements, relationships, or religion? What would it look like to trust Jesus fully for your security instead?
Reject the Lie of Works-Based Salvation: If you’ve been trying to earn God’s love or approval through good deeds or religious activities, consider how Jesus has already paid the price for your salvation. What steps can you take to live in the freedom of His grace?
Embrace the Security Jesus Offers: How would your life change if you trusted that nothing could separate you from the love of God? Take time to memorize and meditate on Romans 8:38-39 this week, reminding yourself of your unshakeable security in Jesus.
PRAY:
Lord, thank You for offering us true security through Jesus. Help us stop striving for approval, whether from people or through religious works and rest in the security You provide. We confess that we have looked for security in the wrong places and ask that You help us place our complete trust in You. May Your love and grace be the foundation of our lives, and may we boldly live in the confidence that comes from being secure in You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
