RAP SHEET 9/29/24

Series: INSECURITY

Sermon: The Lie: Money Brings Security

Scriptures: Proverbs 11:28, 1 Timothy 6:6-19, Matthew 6:19-21, Romans 8:38-39

REVIEW:

This message tackled the common misconception that money can provide us with the security we crave. While we may believe that more wealth, a bigger house, or a higher salary will solve our insecurities, the reality is that money and material possessions will never be enough. Pursuing security through financial gain only leaves us trapped on the "hedonic treadmill," constantly chasing more but never truly satisfied. Scripture teaches us that our security is not found in riches but in God.

Paul’s letter to Timothy offers a powerful equation:

godliness + contentment = great gain.

This points us toward finding contentment in God rather than in the fleeting promises of wealth. Money, while necessary, is uncertain. True security comes only from God's unchanging nature and the eternal treasure that He offers through a relationship with Jesus.

APPLY:

  1. Where have you placed your security in material things instead of God?

  2. How can you cultivate contentment in your current situation, knowing God provides?

  3. What practical steps can you take THIS WEEK to shift your financial perspective from fear and comparison to generosity and gratitude?

PRAY:

Pray for God to help you find true contentment and security in Him, not money or possessions. Ask for wisdom to manage your finances to honor God and trust Him as your ultimate provider and source of peace. Thank Him for the lasting security that comes from the work of Jesus on the cross.
