SERIES: FULFILLED – The Kingdom Way

SERMON: A New Day

SCRIPTURE: Luke 4:40-44

REVIEW

This week we spent one long day in Capernaum—from the synagogue to a home to sunset and into the next morning.

At sunset, when the Sabbath restrictions lifted, people across the town brought their sick, hurting, and oppressed friends and family to Jesus. Many couldn’t get to Him on their own, so others carried them.

Jesus healed everyone, laying hands on each person. He also drove out demons, once again showing His complete authority.

But the next morning, even though the crowds wanted Him to stay, Jesus withdrew to pray, then said something surprising: He had to leave.

Jesus made it clear that His mission wasn’t to stay comfortable in one place—even a place full of miracles—but to proclaim the Kingdom of God everywhere, because that was why He was sent.

This passage shows us both the grace of Jesus—He heals and restores—and the mission of Jesus—the Kingdom must keep moving.

APPLY

Jesus never stayed where it was easiest or most comfortable. He kept moving so others could experience the Kingdom too.

What is ONE WAY you can participate in that mission this week?

It might look like:

  • Bringing someone to Jesus instead of waiting for them to come on their own

  • Inviting someone to church or Life Team

  • Choosing inconvenience for the sake of someone else’s healing

  • Refusing comfort when obedience calls you forward

The Kingdom doesn’t sit still—it advances through surrendered people.

PRAY

Take a moment to pray through these prompts:

  • Thank Jesus for meeting people with both power and compassion

  • Ask God to help you see people in your life who need to be “carried” toward Him

  • Surrender comfort, convenience, or fear that may be holding you back

  • Ask the Holy Spirit to align your life with God’s mission—not just your preferences

Sit quietly and let God speak before you move on.
