SERMON: HOAX or HISTORY?

SCRIPTURE: Acts 5:27–42, 1 Corinthians 15:14

Review

This Easter, we looked at the resurrection of Jesus—the foundation of our faith—and asked the most critical question: Is Jesus DEAD or ALIVE?

In the early church, the Apostles were absolutely convinced that Jesus had risen from the dead. They were willing to be beaten, imprisoned, and even killed to spread that message. Why? Because they had seen Him. They had walked with the risen Christ.

Even one of their greatest skeptics, Gamaliel, a well-respected Pharisee, admitted that if Jesus really did rise, there would be no stopping His movement.

“If this plan or this work is of human origin, it will fail; but if it is of God, you will not be able to overthrow them…” (Acts 5:38–39)

The reality is this:

The tomb was empty.

The movement survived persecution.

The church exploded across the world.

Today, we are still here—proof that something happened- something real.

Jesus is ALIVE.

Because He’s alive:

  • Your sin can be forgiven.

  • Your past doesn’t define you.

  • Your future is secure.

  • You have purpose, hope, and life that lasts forever.

Apply

The resurrection isn’t just a historical event—it’s a personal invitation. Jesus rose for YOU.

  • What should change in our lives if we truly believe Jesus is alive?

  • How should we pray differently? Love differently? Live on mission differently?

  • What bold step is God calling you to take in response to the resurrection?

What is ONE WAY you will live like Jesus is alive this week? Maybe it’s telling someone your story. Perhaps it’s walking in freedom from guilt and shame. Maybe it’s finally surrendering your whole life to Him.

Pray

  • Thank God that death does not have the final word because of Jesus.

  • Ask for courage to live as a witness to the resurrection.

  • Pray for people who need to hear this truth—and ask God for the chance to share it.
