SERMON: Scars That Speak
SCRIPTURE: John 20:24–29
REVIEW
This week, we were challenged to rethink how we view our weaknesses, wounds, and scars. Culture teaches us to hide imperfections and project strength, but Scripture tells a different story. From Genesis, where Adam and Eve hid their shame, to the New Testament, where Paul boasted in his scars, we see a pattern: God doesn’t work through our perfection but through our healed scars.
Jesus modeled this when He appeared to Thomas after the resurrection—not hiding His wounds but showing His scars as proof of His victory. Healed scars are not something to be ashamed of; they are a testimony of God's healing power and grace.
We were also reminded that we don't lead with open wounds, which can still harm others—we lead with healed scars that point to God’s faithfulness.
APPLY
Take some time to reflect:
What is ONE SCAR that God has healed that you have been tempted to hide?
How could sharing your healed pain point someone else toward Jesus?
Is there a relationship, role, or conversation where God is calling you to lead with your healed scars instead of hiding them?
Are there any open wounds you still need to surrender to God for healing so they don’t bleed into the lives of others?
PRAY
Use these prompts to guide your prayer:
Thank God for the places where He has brought healing in your life.
Ask God to reveal any areas where you are still hiding behind shame or fear.
Invite God to use your healed scars as a witness to His grace in your relationships, especially with those closest to you.
Pray for the courage to be real, vulnerable, and faithful—just like Jesus was with Thomas.
