RAP SHEET 5/12/24

Sermon: Motherhood From A-Z

Scripture: Proverbs 31

REVIEW:

This week, we celebrated our moms and examined the last chapter of Proverbs to see the ultimate example of motherhood!

We discussed the prevalent issue of 'mom guilt' amplified by social media, where mothers often feel inadequate due to unrealistic societal expectations. However, as God's children, we are not bound by these standards. The only benchmark we are truly accountable to is the one set by Him. In Proverbs 31, scripture provides a guide that delves beyond the surface-level measures of success we often fixate on, offering a glimpse into the essence of a virtuous life.

First, we learned:

CULTURE CALLS YOU TO BE A CHARACTER

GOD CALLS YOU TO HAVE CHARACTER

Remember, God's focus is not on our external achievements, wealth, or influence, all of which are short-lived. What truly matters is our inner character, which will endure eternally. This underscores the significance and lasting value of who we are and how we choose to live.

Second, we learned:

CULTURE STEALS YOUR CAPACITY

GOD INSTILLS YOUR CAPACITY

We are responsible for using the gifts that God has given us for His purposes. The capacity that God instilled in you is meant to bring him glory! However, constant comparison to others in the culture will steal from your capacity. You cannot fully utilize your gifts while also worrying about the gifts of others.

Third, we learned:

CULTURE KILLS YOUR CONFIDENCE

GOD FILLS YOUR CONFIDENCE

The woman in Proverbs 31 has complete confidence in God. That confidence filters down into her life and makes her a powerful force for good. Social Media constantly fuels the feeling that you are missing out or falling behind. These lies kill your confidence!

APPLY:

While we focused on mothers this week, these lessons can apply to anyone! We all struggle to stay focused on God. Anytime we allow the culture around us to determine how we feel, think, or act - we are missing out on the Character, Capacity, and Confidence we are meant to live with!

How do the pressures of the culture around you shape your character?

In what ways have you seen your capacity drained by worrying about what others think about you?

What are the main things that cause you to question your confidence?

What is ONE WAY you will apply the truths we learned out of Proverbs 31 this week?

PRAY:

Spend some time thanking God for our moms. If you did not have a good mom growing up, thank Him for the women he has placed in your life to help fill that role.
